♦ Anglic. Sport d'hiver qui consiste à faire glisser un palet (de pierre polie ou de fonte) sur la glace.
0 Jeu pratiqué dans les pays nordiques, qui s'apparente à la fois au tir sur glace et au jeu de boules : il consiste à atteindre un objectif en décrivant une légère courbe (to curl : boucler). Né sur les lacs gelés d'Écosse, au XVIe siècle, il se pratiquait vers la fin du XVIIIe siècle avec des pierres pesant jusqu'à 52 kg (…) Le curling se joue sur des pistes de glace artificielle. Les équipes comportent 4 joueurs qui ont le droit de tirer 2 fois. Lorsqu'un joueur a lancé la pierre, ses coéquipiers « balaient » la glace devant l'engin pour prolonger ou corriger le tir.
